Update your place of work
Inconsistency raises questions and suspicions
Each of your online social profiles should have up-to-date information about your current employment status and employment history.
This information should also be consistent across all your social platforms.
Not only does this enable you to be found more easily online, it is important as inconsistencies or out of date information may raise questions in the mind of a potential employer or recruiter about whether you are intentionally trying to hide something or are even just a little careless.
An example of updating your place of work on LinkedIn, by adding a new role.
Social Check Recommends:
1. Ensure profile information is consistent across social media platforms
Review your profile information across the social platforms you are present on. So often we see a person’s profile saying they work for organisation “x” on say LinkedIn but saying they work at organisation “y” on Facebook.
2. Update your “current place of work” on LinkedIn
In the case of LinkedIn, your 'Current Position' should detail the company that you work for and the job title that you hold. If you are currently not working, the 'Current' heading should be deleted and your previous title and organisation should be listed in the 'Past' section of your profile.
3. Update your LinkedIn “headline”
Your professional 'Headline’, which goes under your name, should give a basic description of what you do. For example, “Communications and Marketing Manager” or “Internal Communications Manager”. If you don't currently hold a position, title yourself as what you would 'like' to be. Don't be limited by what your last job title was.
4. Update your “place of work” on Facebook
In the “About” section on Facebook, under “Work and Education” ensure the “Works at” field is up to date and accurate.
