Check your employment timeline
Be ready to explain gaps and job changes
It is not unusual for people to take an extended period of time off work at some stage in their career. This might be due to travel, study, being made redundant, raising a family or looking after a sick relative.
Gaps in employment timelines are normal and not something to be ashamed of. In fact, these periods can often be used to your advantage, as there are always positive attributes that come from these life experiences.
The important thing is to explain the gaps and what you were doing during that time. Unexplained gaps in your employment timeline can raise questions in an employer’s or a recruiter’s mind.

Social Check Recommends:
1. Fill in the gaps online
Explain what you were doing whilst you were not working. Were you freelancing, consulting, volunteering, or studying? All those experiences are considered valuable and should be listed like any other job on LinkedIn - with your title, the company name, job description and time frame. Educational experiences can be added under the "Education" section.
2. Be honest in an interview
In a job interview, if you are asked about the employment gap it is always best to be honest . Be sure to outline the positives of the gap. If you were studying, discuss your course and what you took away from it and can now apply to this job. If you were travelling, talk about your trip and perhaps how great it was to get away, relax and recharge the batteries. If you were raising a child talk about the joys and challenges of motherhood. We are all human and understand that time off work is not always planned, but being honest helps to clear any doubt that may arise from gaps in your employment history.
